The club is delighted to announce the signing of Lewis Gibson on a season-long loan deal from Everton.
The 22-year-old central defender, who has taken the number 17 shirt, started his career at Newcastle United joining The Magpies in 2010 where he would spend seven years before joining Everton in July 2017.
Capped for England at U17, U18 and U20 levels, Lewis' first taste of professional football came during his loan spell at Fleetwood Town in 2020 during Joey Barton's time in charge of the Cod Army. Further loan spells followed, first at Championship side Reading, where Lewis made 13 appearances in the 2020/21 season, Lewis joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan last season to bolster The Owls' backline but was limited to only five appearances at Hillsborough due to injury.
On his move to the Gas, Gibson said;
“I’m delighted to sign for Bristol Rovers. It’s a huge club and last season’s promotion looked amazing so I couldn’t wait to join a club on the up.”
Joey Barton said;
“Lewis is a top young player who we know well from his loan spell with us at Fleetwood. He’s an excellent footballer and a really strong addition to our squad. We look forward to having his quality, experience and character add to our group."
