290722 Rovers Bolster Coaching Team

Bristol Rovers are delighted to announce the arrival of Danny Ventre and Glenn Whelan as first-team coaches ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Rovers’ fans will need no introduction to Whelan, after the 38-year-old Irishman played a crucial role on the pitch in last season’s promotion.

His influence was such that Rovers' boss Joey Barton moved quickly to secure his services for the League One campaign.

Barton said: “Glenn’s influence both on and off the pitch last year was huge. His infectious nature means that it was a no-brainer when the opportunity arose to bring him back as a coach. The experience and knowledge he can pass on to the lads will be a key factor for us moving forward.”

Whelan will be registered as a player, and could be called into action should the Gas require it.

Danny, 36, enjoyed a playing career with teams such as Accrington Stanley and Sligo Rovers, and joins Whelan, Andy Mangan and Kevin Bond as Barton’s first team coaching squad at the Gas.

Barton added: ‘We are really pleased to add Danny to our coaching team. He is someone who brings with him lots of fresh ideas for training and matchdays. He’s an enthusiastic character and the lads will really respond to him. I’m delighted with my team of coaches for the season ahead.”
