Welcome to the Gas, Ellery!
Bristol Rovers is thrilled to announce the loan signing of goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe from Premier League side Brentford until the end of the season.
Ellery spent the first half of this season on loan at Crawley Town, where he made a total of 12 appearances for the League Two outfit.
Standing at 6ft 2ins, Ellery joined Brentford's academy in November 2016 and made the matchday squad for the Bees in their games against Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship and then Notts County in the Emirates FA Cup. Ellery also had a short loan spell at Boreham Wood in 2018, which was cut short by a knee injury he sustained on international duty.
Ellery joined National League side Bromley on loan in January 2022, becoming their regular number one 'keeper. During his time at The Ravens, Ellery made 19 appearances on the way to the first silverware of his senior career. He made a number of saves as Bromley beat Wrexham 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in front of 46,000 fans.
Ellery has also received international recognition. In 2017, he was part of the England squad that won the Toulon Tournament in France, alongside Rovers defender Josh Grant.
Head of goalkeeping David Coles said:
“I tried to sign Ellery three years ago for this club. He’s a good, athletic, all-round goalkeeper that I’ve watched grow over a period of time. He’s a modern goalkeeper with old-fashioned values of goalkeeping.”
