Bristol Rovers is delighted to announce the signing of Jamie Lindsay.
The midfielder has penned a three-year deal with the Gas with the option of a further season.
The 28-year-old moves to The Memorial Stadium following a five-year spell with Rotherham United and becomes the Club’s tenth signing, and eighth permanent acquisition, of the summer so far.
A former Scotland youth international, Lindsay will now continue his career in Sky Bet League One with the Gas.
Lindsay said: “It’s really good to join Bristol Rovers. I’m really excited and happy to be here. I am hungry to get down to work and play here.
“When you drive into the training ground and you see the place, you can tell this is a proper Club with a lot of ambition. I’m really excited and I’m looking forward to getting fit and getting back out on the pitch again.
“The conversations with the gaffer have been really good. When we spoke, he told me everything about the Club and I could see his excitement for the project here. He spoke in such a positive way and then I also spoke to Wayne [Carlisle] and Scott [Brown], who were also both previously at Rotherham and they were also really positive. Anyone I have asked about Rovers have only given positive feedback and I’m glad to be here.”
Manager Matt Taylor is pleased to welcome Lindsey to the club and believes his experience and ability will be of great benefit to the team.
Taylor said: “I am pleased to welcome Jamie to the Club. Having coached Jamie previously, I know we are getting not only a committed player but a passionate and hard-working person.
“I am looking forward to working with him once again here at Rovers.”
Raised in Larkhall, Lindsay began his career in the Celtic Academy before joining Scottish Championship side Dumbarton on loan in July 2015. Fine efforts saw the midfielder named the Club’s player of the month for both November and December, with Lindsay ending the 2015/16 campaign with 28 appearances in all competitions.
Another loan followed in the next season with Greenock Morton and, again, Lindsay impressed. The young midfielder made 40 showings, scoring three goals.
A third loan in three seasons saw Lindsay join Ross County in the 2017/18 season and, while County were relegated from the Scottish Premiership, Lindsay’s efforts saw the Staggies make his move permanent.
A blistering campaign in the Scottish Championship saw Ross County lift the Scottish Challenge Cup, while Lindsay himself impressed in the heart of midfield. Overall, he would make 81 appearances, scoring eleven goals and providing five assists.
Lindsay’s efforts caught the eye south of the border with a transfer to then-League One side Rotherham United. The new signing became a crucial cog in the Millers’ midfield, playing his part in their successful promotion to the Championship in his first campaign.
While relegation followed in the next season, Rotherham and Lindsay returned to the Championship at the first attempt. The midfielder remained essential to the team and ended his five years with Rotherham with 161 appearances, including 92 in the Championship, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.
Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to welcome Jamie to the Club and wish him every success for his career in the blue-and-white quarters.
