Grant Ward was pleased to come off the bench to score in Bristol Rovers' 3-1 victory against Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One.
The midfielder was brought on by Matt Taylor in the second half when the Gas were behind and registered two assists before getting a goal for himself in the final minutes.
His strike came after Shaq Forde and Clinton Mola netted their first goals for the Club to help Rovers come from behind to lead after Danilo Orsi's early opener.
Ward was thrilled that the Gas could collect another win and was delighted to make an impact as a substitute.
“It was a great game,” he said. “There were a few ups and downs and not the best start, but it was a good victory to back up the win in the last game.
“I was delighted. When you’re on the bench, you want to start the game, but if you can’t, the next thing you have to do is make an impact. I think our subs have done that this season, so it’s nice to come on and make an impact.”
Ward has been an integral part of Matt Taylor’s side this season and has appeared in eight of Rovers’ ten matches in League One this campaign.
There was plenty of passion in his celebration, with the midfielder immediately thanking Luke McCormick for his selflessness.
“I’ve got to give Luke McCormick a bit of credit here because the ball was between both of us, but he left it for me,” he said. “It was nice and good to get my first goal of the season to seal the victory.
The Pirates had a difficult September and lost all four matches in the month. However, only five days into October, Rovers have collected two wins from two matches against Charlton Athletic and Burton.
Ward was hopeful that back-to-back victories would be the start of a promising spell for the Gas and is looking forward to the Bristol Street Motors game against Exeter City.
“I think we started the season well,” said Ward. “It was a tough September, so hopefully, in October, we can change that. We’ve started well so far, so hopefully, we can continue that.
“Tuesday is a chance to build momentum. You want to win every game you play. Maybe it’s a chance for a few of the lads on the bench who haven’t played as much to come in and play.
“So, it’s another game we want to win, and I think we’ll go in strong.”
