James Wilson | Everyone is together

James Wilson

James Wilson insisted that everyone must stick together ahead of Bristol Rovers’ Sky Bet League One clash against Wrexham on Saturday.

The Gas are in action for the final time at The Memorial Stadium in 2024 and will be looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats in the third tier.

The Pirates are up against a Red Dragons team seeking their third successive promotion and are in third position, one point behind Birmingham City in second place.

Wilson stated that the last week has been good and that the team must remain together during a difficult period.

“The week of training has been really good,” he said. “Everyone is trying to be really positive. Obviously, last week was really tough for everyone but we’ve just got to be as positive as we can this week.

“Everyone is together, knowing that we’ve got to react, and we’ve got to do something different to what we were doing before. The manager has lost his job. That’s on us. That’s not on him.

“We need to get better. We all know that’s the case. This week has obviously been hard for everyone, but we’ve all got to try and work as hard as we can towards the weekend.”

Wrexham have only lost one of their last 11 matches in League One, keeping 12 clean sheets this season and have quickly adapted to life in the third tier.

Wilson knows that it will be a difficult test but insists that his side can achieve a positive result.

“They are on a really good run of form like they have been for the last few years,” he said. “It's going to be a really tough game; we’ve just got to try and be as positive as we can, create as many chances as we can and see how we go.

“We’re in the same league as them, so it’s not like we’re not capable of getting a result against them. We have beaten some of the bigger teams in the league this year, so I think if we all stick together and we stick to a game plan that Dave puts in place, then I think there is no reason why we can’t create some chances this weekend.”

The Memorial Stadium will be packed for the Gas’ final game of the year. Wilson has called on the fans to support the team.

“We really need the fans to get behind us,” said the defender. “We’ve all got to be together in this at the moment, especially until someone new comes in. The more people on our side, the better.”
