James Wilson | We’ve got loads of massive games coming up

James Wilson is looking forward to a run of ‘massive’ Sky Bet League One fixtures for Bristol Rovers.

Rovers head into this weekend’s home league clash with Barnsley on the back of an Emirates FA Cup exit to Premier League side Ipswich Town at the third round stage, but claimed all three points in the previous league outing - a 1-0 win at Cambridge United.

A disappointing first half away to The Tractor Boys massively contributed to Sunday’s defeat and Wilson has called on the Rovers squad to find a way to problem solve for themselves out on the pitch.

The experienced defender says it is vital the side take their second half effort into this weekend’s fixture at The Memorial Stadium.

"Calde just wants to win games,” Wilson said. “So if that's not working, like it wasn't in the first 30 minutes against Ipswich Town, then we need to have a solution. We need to work that out ourselves on the pitch, that's not up to him. Yeah, we definitely need to be better.

"We need to take that second half and take it into Barnsley. We've got loads of massive games coming up now. Realistically, where we are in the league that's a lot more important but it still wasn't good enough at the start.

“I think as long as you're up for it and you're game and you get close to people then you can at least have a go.

"It was better [the second half]. Don't get me wrong, it's easier when you're 3-0 down because the shackles are off but we need to start games like that. We need to play like we're free and we need to play more aggressive in defence.”
