Jamie Lindsay | It was a nice feeling to score

Jamie Lindsay

Jamie Lindsay stated that Bristol Rovers’ 3-2 win over Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One was well-deserved.

The Gas lost all four games in September but put on a brilliant display against the Addicks and were 3-0 ahead going into the latter stages, with Scott Sinclair, Lindsay and James Wilson all scoring.

The visitors then netted two goals to create a tense ending to the contest at The Memorial Stadium, but Matt Taylor’s men held onto the victory to start October positively.

Lindsay suggested that his side played better than they did in the last fixture, especially after a difficult period.

“It was a better performance,” he said. “I thought it was tough after four losses, but the only way you get through it is hard work and sticking together.”

“After Saturday, we were in Sunday and Monday. We had a few meetings, and I think you could see tonight that we were on the front foot a lot more and were a lot more positive. It was a well-deserved win in the end.”

The Pirates were brilliant in the opening 70 minutes of the contest and stopped Charlton from creating almost any meaningful chances before Nathan Jones’ men got back into the match.

Lindsay said that there was a good feeling around the dressing room and that his side played at the standard that should be expected.

“I don’t think it’s ever perfect, but it was better, and there was a better feel,” said the midfielder. “We said that in the dressing room, the feeling about the game, how we went about it, and there was a lot more communication.

“It just felt like we were at it, and that’s probably the standard we need to be, and we should be.”

Lindsay scored his first goal for the Gas from the edge of the box, curling in a fantastic right-footed strike to put Rovers 2-0 ahead. He insisted that he should be scoring those sorts of goals on a more regular basis and was pleased with his strike.

“I should be doing that a lot more often,” he laughed. “I’ve always said that. Even when I was in Scotland, I used to do it, and when I came here, I stopped.

“I should be doing that. Promise Omochere saw me on the edge of the box and played a good pass. The first thing I thought was touch and shoot. It was a nice feeling.”

The Pirates had lost their previous four games in League One after a positive start to the new campaign.

Lindsay admitted that September was poor for his side but believes the win could be the starting point to build momentum.

“It was a bad month, but the only way you get through it is by sticking together and working hard,” he said. "We’re a new group, and it takes a bit of time to gel. It’s not an excuse because excuses don’t get you anywhere.

"But I think tonight, if we play like that, we’re on the front foot and give the fans something to shout about. It’s enjoyable for them to watch and even for us to play. That’s what we want to be doing.

“Hopefully, we can build momentum. Even at the end, it got a bit nervy, but it was never going to be easy when you’ve lost four on the spin. So, even though we shouldn’t been in the situation where it goes back to 3-2, to stick together and get through it is another positive.”
