Jamie Lindsay | We need to keep believing and working hard

Jamie Lindsay

Jamie Lindsay was frustrated after Bristol Rovers’ late 2-1 loss to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday but quickly insisted that results will change if the team stick together.

The Gas started brightly and took the lead through Scott Sinclair’s calm finish into the bottom corner and were in control for lots of the match, but Daniel Harvie’s fantastic strike levelled the score heading into the final stages.

The Chairboys then claimed all three points in the final seconds through Joe Low’s header.

Lindsay was left frustrated by the defeat but remained upbeat about the future and praised the quality of the squad.

“I’m disappointed, frustrated and gutted,” said the midfielder. “We need to be better collectively, and we’ll go again on Tuesday.

“We started pretty well in the first half and went a goal ahead. It was positive and better than last week. I think we lost our way a little bit at the start of the second half. But that happens in football as it’s not always going to be perfect, but I think we need to be able to see it out better and stand up to it.

“We didn’t, and it’s been frustrating, but we need to stick with it. The only way it’ll change is if everyone sticks together and work hard, and it’ll click at some point. We’ve got good players and squad, so we need to keep believing and working hard, and it’ll change.”

Lindsay started his second consecutive fixture in Sky Bet League One and played an integral part in Rovers’ goal, winning possession in the midfield moments before Sinclair scored.

The former Rotherham United man was pleased to be involved but suggested the team must improve in difficult situations.

“It feels like a distant memory,” he said. “It would’ve been nice if that was the goal that won it, but a lot happened from then until the end of the game. I felt like we started brighter and were positive. It felt good, and everyone on the pitch was together.

We’ve got good players and a squad, so we need to keep believing and working hard, and it’ll change.

“At half-time it was positive, and we had to start the second half in the same way. We let our heads go a little. There are a lot of senior lads on the pitch, and we need to be better in those situations. So, it’s something we need to work on as if we come out better in the second half, it probably doesn’t end the way it does.

“The last goal was another kick in the teeth, but it’s about how we bounce back. It’s football. You get highs and lows. This is obviously a difficult moment, but it’s up to us to turn that around.”

October is a busy month for the Gas, with Matt Taylor’s men playing eight games across two competitions.

Lindsay insisted that the squad must push through the difficult spell as one result can change fortunes.

“We’ve got no option as we can’t feel sorry for ourselves,” said Lindsay. “We need to stand up to it, keep battling through, and hopefully we get a win. In football, as soon as you get that win, things can change quickly.

"So, we need to be positive, stick with it, and it’ll all change.”
