Match Preview | Bristol Rovers v Birmingham City

BIRMINGHAM CITY

Bristol Rovers v Birmingham City
Sky Bet League One, The Memorial Stadium, Tuesday 1 April, 8:00pm KO

Bristol Rovers will look to end their three-game losing streak when they host Birmingham City at The Memorial Stadium in Sky Bet League One.

The Gas attempted to bounce back from two consecutive away defeats against Lincoln City and Crawley Town with a third straight win at home when they hosted Mansfield Town on Crawley but lost 2-1 to the Stags.

Romaine Sawyers cancelled out Caylan Vickers’s opener inside the first minute, but Dom Dwyer struck a second-half winner to give the visitors all three points. The Pirates are six points above the relegation zone with seven games to play, with Burton Albion and Crawley looking to close the gap on the Gas.

Birmingham thumped Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in their last fixture, with Ben Davies and Ethan Laird scoring either side of half-time before Alfie May netted a late brace for Blues.

Opposition...

Birmingham were relegated from the Championship last term but have stormed League One this term and are almost certain to make an immediate return to the second tier after a fantastic season.

Backed in the summer with some high-profile additions in the transfer market, with League One record signing Jay Stansfield headlining their additions, Blues are nine points clear of second-place Wrexham and have two games in hand on the Red Dragons. Additionally, Chris Davies’ men are 12 points ahead of Wycombe Wanderers in third.

Birmingham have only lost three matches in the league this season and have 86 points after 37 matches, netting the second most goals (63) and conceding the least (25). Blues have won three of their previous four fixtures, with their last defeat coming against Bolton at the start of March.

Additionally, they have collected 32 points away from home in the league, their most on their travels in a single season since the 2008-09 campaign when they were promoted from the Championship.
