Stockport County Preview

Bristol Rovers v Stockport County
Sky Bet League One, The Memorial Stadium, Tuesday 11 February, 7:45pm

Bristol Rovers will be searching for their third successive victory at The Memorial Stadium in Sky Bet League One when they host Stockport County on Tuesday night.

The Gas recovered from back-to-back 2-0 away defeats to Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic with a 3-1 triumph over Peterborough United. James Wilson, Isaac Hutchinson and Ruel Sotiriou scored to put Rovers into a three-goal lead before Ricky-Jade Jones netted a late consolation for the visitors.

The victory pushed the Pirates ahead of the Posh and six points above the relegation zone, with Iñigo Calderón’s men now playing their next two matches at home.

Before playing Barnsley, Stockport previously beat Leyton Orient on their travels, with Kyle Wootton scoring the only goal in the first half.

Opposition...

Stockport gained promotion from League Two last season and have flourished in the third tier.

Written before their upcoming clash at home to promotion rivals Barnsley, the Hatters have been in brilliant form and have surged to fourth position after four successive victories. The final in that run was probably their most impressive, collecting a 1-0 victory away to Leyton Orient, who had been unbeaten in 12 League One outings.

Their positive patch of results is even more impressive after a difficult run, where they had previously been winless in five fixtures in all competitions.

Stockport were busy in the January transfer window but suffered a massive blow before the market even started. Louie Barry, who led their scoring ranks after netting 15 goals in 23 appearances in League One, was recalled by Aston Villa, who later sent him out on loan to Championship side Hull City.

In response, the Hatters signed highly rated attacking midfielder Micah Hamilton on loan from Middlesbrough, with the 21-year-old bursting onto the scene when he scored on his Manchester City debut in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade.

They also added Portsmouth midfielder Owen Moxon permanently for an undisclosed fee, with striker Sam Cosgrove and defender Brad Hills moving on loan from Barnsley and Norwich City, respectively.
