Cambridge United v Bristol Rovers
Sky Bet League One, Cledara Abbey Stadium, Saturday 4 January, 12:30pm

Bristol Rovers will be hoping to claim a league double over Cambridge United when they travel to the Cledara Abbey Stadium in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.

The Gas beat the U’s 2-0 at The Memorial Stadium earlier in the season and will want to turn their form around after losing six of their last seven matches in the third tier. However, despite recent defeats, there have been plenty of positives. Rovers created plenty of chances in their losses to Exeter City and Leyton Orient, both games coming in their last three outings.

Nevertheless, new head coach Iñigo Calderón will be looking to switch positives into points, with his new side just one place and two points above the relegation zone.

Cambridge lost 3-1 at home to Reading in their last outing, with a brace from Harvey Knibbs and a goal from Sam Smith, who both used to play for the U’s, helping the Royals to three points.

Opposition...

Cambridge have had a difficult campaign in League One and are in 23rd position, five points below the Gas, who are just above the relegation zone. It looked like the U’s were on an upward trajectory at the start of December, recovering from a 3-0 defeat away at Reading to thump Shrewsbury Town 4-1 before a respectable 2-2 draw with Wrexham on the road, but have had a difficult time since then.

Garry Monk’s men have lost their last four games in the third tier, conceding 11 goals, so will be looking to turn around their fortunes as quickly as possible.

Previous Meetings...

Rovers have an impressive record against Cambridge and have won seven of their last eight games against the U’s. The Gas claimed three points at The Memorial Stadium earlier in the campaign, with Promise Omochere netting his first two goals for the Club in a 2-0 victory.

However, Cambridge won the last meeting at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, with Fejiri Okenabirhie and Sullay Kaikai scoring off the bench. Rovers last beat their upcoming opponents on the road 2-1 in January 2023, with Josh Coburn and Scott Sinclair finding the back of the net in a comeback victory.
