Opposition…

Cardiff City were relegated from the Premier League in the 2018/19 season and have been in the Championship ever since. The Bluebirds were battling against relegation in the 2022/23 campaign and finished just one place above the drop zone but were much improved last campaign under the leadership of Erol Bulut.

They ended the campaign in twelfth position and will be looking to make a steady improvement this season, adding plenty of new additions.

Cardiff have signed players with plenty of Premier League experience, making a move for Calum Chambers from Aston Villa and Anwar El Ghazi from Bundesliga outfit Mainz. Chris Willock also joined from Queens Park Rangers after making 114 appearances for the Hoops.

Alexander Robertson moved to Wales on a permanent deal from Manchester City after winning promotion from Sky Bet League One with Portsmouth last season. Finally, striker Wilfried Kanga has joined from Hertha Berlin until the end of the season, coming to English football for the first time.

Previous Meetings…

It has not been long since Rovers played Cardiff, meeting the Bluebirds in the final pre-season match before the start of the season at The Memorial Stadium. The visitors left with a 2-0 victory after brilliant first-half goals from Aaron Ramsey and Joe Ralls.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides also came in the Carabao Cup, with the Gas coming away with a 1-0 victory at home after a goal in extra time from Chris Lines in 2016.

The Pirates last visited the Cardiff City Stadium in 2009, losing 3-1 in the same competition.
