Matt Taylor was delighted with the way Bristol Rovers started in their 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One.
The Gas have won three of their four outings in the third tier in October, beating Charlton Athletic and Burton Albion before collecting three points against the Shrews.
Jamie Lindsay ran onto Shaq Forde’s cutback to curl his first-time finish into the top corner, lifting the Pirates into 15th position.
Taylor discussed the fast start, the different formation and the clean sheet.
We started the game well...
"We started the game well," said Taylor. "We could not have started the game any better, and we should probably have been ahead in that first half an hour. Then there was a strange period before half-time where the game plateaued a little bit.
"We lost a little bit of our energy; the crowd lost a little bit of their enthusiasm, and it just kind of went through that dead moment. We started the second half brightly again, and the goal came at a really good time.
"We should probably have added to it and made it a more comfortable finish to the game, but privately, I’m quite pleased that we got the clean sheet. We held on and survived what we needed to survive."
The formation looked like it suited us tonight...
"The formation looked like it suited us tonight," he said. "We looked more connected as a team and were able to move closely and have good legs in that team as well.
"But you need platforms on the pitch. I always say it. I thought Promise Omochere led the line really well. Scott Sinclair, Shaq and Ruel Sotiriou played well off the back of him.
"There was a more solid look to the team tonight. There was a slight change in shape, which we’ll obviously look to implement as long as people are physically able to keep putting energy into it."
It’s the first clean sheet since Cambridge...
"It’s the first clean sheet since Cambridge," said the manager. "I think we had three out of the first four, and then it takes a long time to come again. I think we deserved the clean sheet tonight. I know we had the pressure at the end, but Josh hasn’t had a lot of saves to make.
"He’s been worked a lot this season, but this wasn’t a game where he’s made save after save after save. We might have ridden our luck a little bit with the disallowed goal, I’ve not seen it yet. We’re saying it’s offside, and they’re probably saying it’s onside, it’s one of those decisions.
"I’m delighted with three wins out of four. We’re not in a bad place despite the feeling going into the game."
