Promise Omochere is confident that goals will come for him and the team ahead of Bristol Rovers’ trip to Stockport County in Sky Bet League One.
The Gas found their scoring streak against Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday night, netting three goals and creating plenty of chances.
However, despite collecting four impressive points from their opening two outings in the third tier and keeping back-to-back clean sheets, the Pirates have only netted one goal.
Omochere was the eleventh of Rovers’ fourteen signings, moving from Fleetwood Town to bolster the attack. He scored twice in pre-season and believes his first competitive goal is close, with the new-look attack progressing together.
“I’m confident that the goals will come,” said the forward. “It’s only been two league games. There’s another 44 left. I think as a collective, as a team, you want to be better going forward. We look really, really good defensively.
“In the final third, as a collective, it’s something we’re working on, and then more and more goals will come over the duration of the season.”
League One has several strong teams confident that they will be battling for promotion this season, with newly promoted Stockport showing early signs that they will be part of the conversation.
Omochere insists that the Gas can challenge any team and that there have already been early indications of their intent.
"We go into every game wanting to win,” he said. “So, we’re going there at the weekend to get three points. It’s quite a tough league, with a few big teams coming down and a few good teams coming up.
“We can definitely compete with anyone in this league, as we’ve shown already with the few games we’ve played. As a group, we want to win as many games as we can and finish as high as possible.”
Omochere has played a vital role in the Rovers squad. He started the first three competitive games of the campaign but is still looking to improve his fitness after an indifferent pre-season before joining the Gas.
The 23-year-old suggested that he is getting closer to full fitness and is delighted with the way Taylor has played him.
“I’m getting closer to being 100 per cent,” he said. “I’m just trying to build my minutes as I did get quite a few injuries last year.
“Hopefully, they are behind me now and this season coming off the back of a season of stop and start, it’s good just to get a run of games, get myself up to 90 minutes and kick on from there.
"I was straight in from the start. The gaffer has been good to me since I’ve come in, the whole staff have been great, so just implementing the way they want me to play, implementing it in games and showing what I can do."
