Bristol Rovers collected a valuable point on the road after a goalless draw with promotion favourites Rotherham United.
The Millers had the best chances of the first half, with Christ Tiehi slamming the post before Josh Griffiths made three top saves, stopping Cameron Humphreys' effort from close range and twice denying Sam Nombe.
Rovers had to wait until after the break for their best chance, with Luke McCormick firing his first-time effort over after a neat move.
The hosts continued to push for their first goal of the season after a 1-0 loss to Exeter City on the opening day but faltered. Christ Tiehi missed the target with two efforts, Jamie McCart hit the bar, and Jonson Clark-Harris' flicked shot was pushed away by the goalkeeper.
The Gas showed flashes of promise in the opening exchanges and dealt with Rotherham’s direct style of play well, unsettling the home fans and lifting those who made the trip down from the South West.
However, the Millers had the first clear opportunity of the contest. Tiehi had enough time to collect Reece James’ pass down the left side of the box before sending a swivelling shot towards the bottom corner, but his effort crashed off the post.
The hosts gained confidence from their opportunity and were denied the opener soon after, with Griffiths supplying two massive saves. Humphreys’ strike from close range was pushed away by the goalkeeper before he scrambled Nombe's rebound away.
Nombe should have found the back of the net moments later, getting onto the end of a cross in the heart of the box but directing his effort straight at Griffiths, who made himself big to stop the shot.
Rovers were under intense pressure but went close to going ahead against the run of play. Promise Omochere raced down the right and played a ball inside to Grant Ward, with the midfielder opting against a shot from distance and instead laying it into Isaac Hutchinson on the left. He looked to beat Phillips with a first-time strike, but the shot-stopper got down to his right to claim.
Rotherham ended the first 45 minutes with a half-chance, seeing Hakeem Odoffin send his header over the bar after latching onto Joe Powell’s cross.
The Millers continued to be in the ascendancy after the half-time break, with Powell causing problems with his crosses into the box. This time, from a corner, he found Tiehi, who hit the side of the net with his right-footed shot.
Rovers looked threatening on the break and put a flowing move together just before the hour mark. Hutchinson curled a pass down the right to Grant Ward, who did excellently to keep the ball on the pitch before driving a low cross into the box. Omochere let it run to substitute McCormick, but he fired his first-time shot over.
Steve Evans’ men responded with two chances of their own. Tiehi lifted an acrobatic shot over from inside the box before blasting James’ deep cross from the left wide of the post.
Jamie McCart then hit the bar with a lofted strike next to the goal, and Clark-Harris' clever effort at the near post was pushed away by Griffiths.
The final chance fell to the hosts, who went agonisingly close to collecting all three points. A cross from the right was cleared as far as Jordan Hugill, who crashed a powerful volley from the outskirts of the box just over the top-right corner.
Ultimately, the contest ended goalless in a game of few chances. However, Rovers can be happy with their defensive performance, keeping their second consecutive clean sheet in Sky Bet League One.
