Bristol Rovers were beaten as a stellar first-half performance by Swindon Town put them on the way to a 4-0 win in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy group stages.
The Robins dominated the first half and were four goals ahead at the break. Captain Paul Glatzel led from the front and scored twice inside 12 minutes before Joel McGregor added a third from the edge of the box.
Botan Ameen then powered in a header from Sean McGurk to complete a perfect opening 45 minutes for the hosts.
Rovers improved as the second half progressed, with Luke McCormick, Kofi Shaw and Isaac Hutchinson drilling shots wide from distance, but Matt Taylor's men could not find a way back into the match.
Rovers collected one point from their opening match against Tottenham Hotspur U21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and made nine changes to the team that beat Burton Albion 3-1 on Saturday.
However, Swindon started quickly and broke the deadlock within two minutes. Sean McGurk threaded a clever pass down the left side of the box to Glatzel, who looped his effort over onrushing goalkeeper Hall.
The Robins gained plenty of confidence and played the ball around nicely, doubling their lead ten minutes later. Jake Cain collected possession on the left and delivered a fantastic cross towards Glatzel, with the forward stretching to get on the end of it and powering a first-time effort into the net.
The Gas were being pressured by Swindon and were trying to get a foothold in the contest. Gatlin O'Donkor made space inside the box before driving a low strike straight at Daniel Barden.
McCormick also whipped an effort from a distance wide, with Hutchinson going on a burst forward before curling a tame shot at the goalkeeper.
However, Swindon grabbed the next goal to gain a comfortable first-half advantage. A free-kick from the right was cleared as far as McGregor, who sent a dipping effort from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.
The hosts then netted again soon after. Ameen latched onto McCurk's corner to power a close-range header past Hall for a debut goal.
With Swindon in a commanding position, the tempo of the contest slowed after the restart. The Gas got better in the second half and made changes to try and work their way back into the contest, but gave themselves too much to do.
The hosts then netted again soon after. Ameen latched onto McCurk's corner to power a close-range header past Hall for a debut goal.
Promise Omochere came off the bench and held up the ball well before slotting it across to McCormick. The midfielder got it out of his feet well before bending his strike from a distance wide of the post.
Shaw also showed glimpses of promise and did well to escape a defender with some clever feet before dragging his low shot just past the upright.
In the end, the Pirates fell to their first defeat in October after back-to-back wins over Charlton Athletic and Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One.
