Ruel Sotiriou receives Cyprus international call-up

Ruel Sotiriou

Bristol Rovers' Ruel Sotiriou has been named in Cyprus' squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Sotiriou has been in strong form for the Gas and has scored four goals since Iñigo Calderón took charge of the Pirates. His last strike came in the Pirates' 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town, with the forward looping a clever strike over Lee Nicholls to give Rovers the victory at The Memorial Stadium.

The forward will be looking to build on the one international cap he earned in March 2024 when he debuted in a friendly against Latvia.

Cyprus host San Marino at the GSP Stadium in their first World Cup qualifier on Friday 21 March, kicking off at 5pm BST. His nation then go to Bosnia-Herzegovina's Bilino Polje Stadium on Monday 24 March, with the fixture starting at 7:45pm BST. Austria and Romania are the other two sides in Group H.

Ollie Dewsbury, who made his league debut for the Gas in Rovers' 1-0 win over the Terriers, has been called up for Wales' U17 squad for their European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Albania.

Everyone at Bristol Rovers congratulates Ruel and Ollie on their call-ups.
