Taylor Moore stated that he was proud of Bristol Rovers’ performance in the Gas’ 2-0 win over Cambridge United in Sky Bet League One.
Rovers opened the campaign at The Memorial Stadium with a victory over Northampton Town and collected their second consecutive home league victory after back-to-back matches on the road.
Promise Omochere netted his first two competitive goals for the club either side of half-time to secure the triumph, meaning Matt Taylor’s men have now gained seven points from their first four matches.
Moore was thrilled with the win and the performance, especially after the defeat to Stockport County last weekend.
“It was a very good day,” said the defender. “Clean sheet, two goals, a win, couldn’t really ask for more. I think off the back of last week's performance, it’s what we wanted, it’s what we set out earlier on in the week.
"The manager laid out the fact that after Stockport, we have to be a team that’s able to bounce back from setbacks as well. So, I’m really, really proud of everyone today from start to finish.
“It wasn’t always perfect, but we did really well. To come away with a win like that is important.”
Bryant Bilongo will get most of the plaudits for his wonderful assist for Omochere’s second goal, but Moore was instrumental, with the centre-back launching an inviting cross into the box.
Moore joked that it was something he had been working on but was quick to say that those situations are practised during the week.
“That’s something I’ve been working on,” he laughed. “I think we’re in situations every day where the ball will come at you at different trajectories, different flights, and you have to be able to read it and try different things.
“Ultimately, it is probably what I like doing in my game. I don’t like keeping things safe, sometimes they’ll come off, and sometimes they won’t. But I don't think I’ll be able to change that.”
Moore plays as one of the three centre-backs but is given the license to push forward and help with the attack. He said that Matt Taylor’s style suits him well and the role gets the best out of him.
“He wants a group of lads that are willing to put in the yards,” said Taylor. “That suits me to a tee. I think if I limited myself to staying at the back, I wouldn’t be giving the best.
“I’m really comfortable doing that, getting forward but also just running for the team as well.”
Moore was the seventh of Rovers’ sixteen transfers in the summer window and sees himself as one of the senior figures in a youthful group of players.
The defender believes the new-look team has plenty of potential and can already see signs of success.
“I’m 27, but I think in this group of young players, I’m in that bracket,” he said. “I think the manager expects that of me and a few other boys as well.
“This is a project; you can see all the boys are signing two or three-year contracts. This is not just for the next six months, so people are going to have to be patient in many ways as well.
“But it’s nice if we're telling people to be patient but also winning! We’re all just gelling really well together. The staff have been fantastic.”
