Luke Thomas joined Bristol Rovers on loan from Barnsley in 2021 before moving permanently to the Gas in 2023 on a three-year deal.
Born in Soudley, Thomas came through the academy of Cheltenham Town, making his only appearance for the Robins against Chelmsford City in the FA Trophy.
He had plenty of interest in him, with Premier League outfits reportedly looking to make a move, but Derby County secured his services in 2016 for an undisclosed fee.
Loan moves followed to Gloucester City and then Coventry City, where he made 43 appearances and scored three goals in Sky Bet League One.
The 25-year-old then switched to Barnsley for an undisclosed fee and made an immediate impact, scoring on his Championship debut in a 1-0 win over Fulham.
He was an instrumental part of the team that narrowly avoided relegation, making 39 appearances as the Tykes finished in 21st position.
Thomas played on 19 occasions in the league for Barnsley the season after before moving out on loan to Ipswich Town in January 2021.
The 2021/22 campaign saw Thomas make a loan switch to Bristol Rovers for his first spell at the Gas, making 28 appearances and helping the team gain promotion from League Two.
The midfielder returned to Barnsley after being welcomed back to the side by manager Michael Duff and played an instrumental part in their good start. However, he missed four months of the season after breaking his leg in training.
Thomas then moved to the Pirates after his contract expired at Barnsley, and he signed a three-year deal. He had his best scoring season last term, netting five league goals in 37 outings.
