Jack Hunt joined Bristol Rovers in August 2023 on a two-year deal after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.
Born in Rothwell, Hunt moved to Huddersfield Town’s academy at aged nine and signed his first professional contract in April 2009.
He featured multiple times as an unused substitute in the 2009/10 season and went out on loan to Grays Athletic in the Conference Premier, now known as the National League, and made four appearances.
Hunt then earned a move to League Two outfit Chesterfield the following campaign, making twenty appearances before returning to the Terriers in January. The defender played an integral part for Huddersfield for the remainder of the campaign, only missing two games as his side finished third in League One, losing in the playoffs to Peterborough United.
The 33-year-old became an established team member the following campaign, making 43 league appearances. He helped Huddersfield gain promotion to the Championship via the playoffs, where he played the final against Sheffield United. His performances were rewarded with a place in the PFA League One Team of the Year.
He kept his place in the second tier and played on 40 occasions as the Terriers avoided relegation, ending the campaign in nineteenth position.
Hunt started the 2013/14 campaign at Huddersfield but only made two appearances before switching to Premier League side Crystal Palance on a four-year deal. However, he broke his ankle in training and never played for the Eagles. He went on loan spells to Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday between 2014 and 2016 before permanently moving to the Owls in January.
He made 34 appearances for Carlos Carvalhal’s men and helped them to the playoff final, playing a vital role in the side as they overcame Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-final before a 1-0 loss to Hull City in the final.
He spent the following two seasons at Wednesday before moving to Bristol City for an undisclosed fee. He made 109 league appearances across three Championship campaigns for the Robins, rejoining the Owls ahead of the 2021-22 season.
He played 39 times in the first season back in Sheffield and was part of the team that felt League One playoff heartache, losing to Sunderland in the semi-finals.
Hunt only played 16 times in League One the season after, but it ended in success. The defender scored the winning penalty as Wednesday defeated Peterborough on their way to Wembley, ultimately beating Barnsley 1-0 in the final.
That was his final appearance for the Owls, with Hunt moving to Bristol Rovers in 2023. He signed a two-year deal and played 25 times in the league last term, scoring three goals.
